Evenly distribution of amorphous iron sulfides on reconstructed Mg-Al hydrotalcites for improving Cr(VI) removal efficiency

Hexavalent Chromium (Cr(VI)) in water is a public health concern and has been challenging research subject environmental field for many years. Herein, novel composite material consisting of amorphous iron sulfides supported on hydrotalcites (FeS/HTs) was synthesized by “calcination-reconstruction-calcination” process, which enables homogeneous distribution sulfur the surface (HT). The (mass ratio FeS/HT 1/2) could effectively remove over 98% Cr(VI) within 10 min. A pseudo-second-order kinetic model Langmuir isotherm were well fitted sorption data with maximum removal capacity 206.2 mg/g. superior adsorption FeS/HTs be attributed to combination advantages abundant sites HT powerful reduction properties sulfides. X-ray diffraction (XRD) photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis suggested adsorbed interlayer had reduced Cr(III) reductant sulfur. This study demonstrated that potential application prospects removal.
